A picture paints a dancer's canvas
Images are important to the dance. There's a million ways to take a boring picture in raqs, and a billion to take a blurry or crap one.
The LiveJournal post of Darren Holmes' work with one tribal-focused dancer is very, very impressive. You can see it at the LJ bellydance community, in his post there.
I wish there were more folks like him, taking images of folks like us.

The URL is a link to what you will surely consider more blurry/crap photos, but I would like to think that the beauty and joy and meditative aspect of the dance still comes through in them.
I'm sure you can figure out which one I am.
(Also, the page might give you an idea of what my first bellydance teacher was like, and why I'm interested in studying the Sufi aspects of dance--although mine is more an academic curiosity than a spiritual commitment, I suppose.)
